Favorite Stocking Stuffer of all time.
Mine's batteries. Yeah it's not very original, but very very practical.

Small promotional items are kind of neat. If it weren't for the fact that I don't drink soda, I'd save up the promotional iTunes codes that came on mountain dew (I think), and fill one with a handful of them.
For the anime fan, some companies sell mini-DVDs that have a single episode on them, the first, and can be used as a coupon for a full DVD from that series. I'm pretty certain those would fit. I'd imagine there are similar things for movies and TV series, though don't quote me on it.
Anything that can be purchased online and redeemed using an encryption key that can be written down makes for an interesting surprise. Especially if you don't right out say what it's for
Small, cute trinkets tend to be received nicely. I once encountered a store that sold hand-folded miniature origami, though at $.99 a piece, getting more than a few of them would have added up fairly quickly. The concept remains solid, regardless!
You have to be careful with things like magnets, but even they can make interesting gifts. Go Neodymium Iron Boron! (Incredibly powerful for their size and cost. )
I like to get things that are a little unusual, but make for memorable gifts, and stocking stuffing is one of the most fun ways to surprise people.
